The History of Hôtel Père Benoît in Entzheim

An Alsatian Farm Transformed into a Characterful Establishment

In Entzheim, behind the half-timbering and geraniums, Père Benoît tells the story of an old Alsatian farm transformed into a place of hospitality. Today, a hotel, restaurant, and reception areas form a single establishment, deeply attached to its architecture and regional identity.

The Origins of Père Benoît

The name “Père Benoît” preserves the memory of the site’s baking vocation. Even today, it evokes the taste for simple and generous things: bread, kougelhopf, Alsatian recipes, and the pleasure of hosting around a table.

The Beginnings of Restaurant Steinkeller

In 1976, the farm’s old vaulted cellar welcomed the restaurant’s first tables. Its name naturally emerged: “Steinkeller” means “stone cellar” in Alsatian.

Under the vaults and between the stone walls, the restaurant developed convivial regional cuisine, inspired by Alsatian specialties and local products.

1987

The Old Barns Become a Hotel

About ten years later, the farm’s barns were converted to accommodate the first guest rooms. The project preserved the building’s character, its volumes, and its half-timbering.

Thirty rooms were thus created, allowing travelers to extend their stay in Entzheim in the tranquility of an Alsatian home.

The Restaurant Unveils New Atmospheres

Restaurant Steinkeller gradually expanded into other parts of the old farm.

The Winstub, Les 4 Saisons, and the Véranda were added to the Caveau. Four rooms, four atmospheres, but one common goal: to offer Alsatian cuisine in a warm and authentic setting.
